What is the Fastest Way to Learn Roblox Scripting?

The answer to how fast you can learn anything is dependent on your inputs. This is how long you are willing to spend learning it as well.

For example, if I spend 30 minutes every day learning scripting, it might take me 6 months before I have enough knowledge to make a small Roblox game from scratch.

If I spend 2 hours every day, it might take me a few months.

But what also matters is how you’re learning Roblox scripting.

For example, if you spend 2 hours just watching tutorial after tutorial, it won’t help you become a better scripter because scripting takes hands-on practice.

But if you spend 1 hour watching a tutorial and then 1 hour with hands-on practice, you will definitely become a better scripter.

The fastest way to learn Roblox scripting is to watch some tutorials, and then immediately apply what you’ve learned.

Let’s look through the different methods of learning Roblox scripting, and categorize them by the time it takes to learn.

How Fast Can You Learn Roblox Scripting With YouTube Tutorials?

YouTube is a great resource to Roblox learn scripting, as there are thousands of videos on it.

You can always find your favorite scripter on YouTube, and if they have tutorials, you can watch them. They’re completely free.

But having so many options to choose from can be a downside, because you’re always swamped with tutorials.

This can lead you down into “tutorial hell”, which is where you’re just watching tutorial after tutorial without actually implementing what you’ve learned.

Also, since YouTubers are paid to make you watch their content for as long as possible, a lot of YouTubers will try to fill up the video and talk as long as they can, instead of getting straight to the point. This can be a waste of time for you.

YouTubers will also try to make you believe you can learn Roblox scripting in a week from their videos, which simply isn’t true, because you will just get swamped with so much information and not know what to watch or do in order to move forward.

So, how fast can you learn Roblox scripting with YouTube?

I’d say that you will probably not learn it that fast because:

There’s a lack of structure. You don’t know what tutorials you should be watching at your level as a beginner Roblox scripter.
You will have so many options to choose from that it will probably make you feel overwhelmed with scripting tutorials, and you might fall into tutorial hell, where you just keep watching with no intention of practicing.
Because of the amount of content on YouTube, you will probably end up finding things boring and will choose to watch other YouTube content.

How Fast Can You Learn Roblox Scripting With Official Roblox Documentation?

The official Roblox documentation contains a lot of information about Roblox scripting.

It has just about everything you’d need to understand how to use a lot of Roblox-provided services.

However, it is extremely overwhelming for beginners.

Most beginner scripters won’t understand a lot of the terminology that the documentation uses.

So, if you’re a beginner looking to learn Roblox scripting just relying on the documentation, you will probably find yourself overwhelmed and quit.

The documentation is more of a reference for experienced scripters.

For example, if I forgot how ContextActionService works, I can just search it up in the Roblox documentation.

But to try to learn Roblox scripting from beginning, just using this, would be a slow and arduous process.

How Fast Can You Learn Roblox Scripting With 1 on 1 Coaching?

How fast you can learn Roblox scripting, however, depends on the book you’re using and if you are given enough ability to practice what you’ve learned.

A book provides you with a structured approach to learning Roblox scripting. You’ll know what you need to learn at your level.

When writing a book, authors will try to make it their best creation as well, because they want to put their best work in a tangible format.

There are no ads inside of books. You can read as much as you want.

Books have lots of pictures as well to help illustrate the content.

Downsides of Learning Roblox Scripting Using a Book

A lot of books will just serve as information dumps.

Roblox scripting books may not have quizzes to help you test what you’ve learned.

They may not explain things as well.

There are also Roblox scripting books that are written by contractors, and not industry professionals, meaning that they will not give you immediately applicable advice from their years of being game developers.
