What Are the Easiest Roblox Games to Script as a Beginner?

In this article, I’ll tell you about the easiest Roblox games to script as a complete beginner.

First of all, it’s really awesome that you’re learning to script and are looking for the easiest Roblox games to script, because that means that you intend to take scripting seriously. I’m proud you for making that decision.

When you’re scripting smaller features here and there, like making red balls fall and kill bricks, you’re learning about individual features.

By the way, if you don’t know how to script those things quite yet, that’s okay.

Watch my video to introduce you to roblox scripting and help you learn how to do some of those things by yourself.

Now, when you script a simple game, you’re learning about how you can make all of those features (like falling parts, kill bricks, etc.) work together as one whole system.

Starting by scripting easy Roblox games helps boost your confidence and scripting muscles.

Don’t Choose the Wrong First Game

I’m Kushal. I’ve been scripting Roblox games since 2016 and teaching it online and in person to over 1,000,000+ views.

Beginners often get stuck choosing the wrong first game to script.

Tons of people in the past have gone on 1-1 scripting coaching calls with me, asking for help on scripting their first game, which happens to be a really advanced game.

I help them, and they love the progress that we both make on their game, but I encourage them to start simple games, as the game that they are looking to make may make them quit in the future, due to how complex it is.

For example, sometimes beginners try to make FPS games to model popular steam games, but they aren’t yet able to understand loops.

It becomes a challenging issue when this happens, because beginners will try to consult AIs, like ChatGPT, to make their game for them.

After they realize that the AI won’t completely understand their vision, and makes mistakes, they get frustrated and quit.

It sucks.

But when I help my students pick a simple game and get started with the code, they’re able to learn scripting on their own and make tons of progress on their games.

My Reason to Learn Scripting

When I was a small 12 year old kid, scripting on Roblox in 2016, I had a big reason to learn scripting.

It was because of a transformation script that I had seen online, which you can view by watching the video above.

I wanted to learn to create this transformation really really badly.

This was my big reason to learn scripting.

To be able to create this own transformation and eventually, my own dragon ball game.

If you want to read the full story, check out this article on how I got started learning scripting.

My First Roblox Game

So, I learned scripting and eventually built out my first game, Dragon Ball: Beyond Evolution.

Now, this game took a very long time to turn into reality because of how difficult it was to script.

Imagine trying to create flight mechanics as a 12 year old when you can’t even understand variables properly.

Yeah.

It took a long time, but I pulled it off.

In my mind, I was thinking that Roblox games are supposed to take a long time to make.

I was willing to take as long as it took to get the game working the way I wanted it.

While this was indeed a very difficult first game for me, I recommend you don’t go this route unless you are super passionate about scripting.

For me, it was ride or die.

The only thing I ever thought about was being able to script and that perseverance over the time period of 1.5 years is what pushed me to get this game out.

But nowadays, I wouldn’t recommend starting out with such a difficult game because of the mental strength it requires to continue with it.

There were hundreds of times in making this game that would’ve made an average person quit.

The lock-on camera in the video took me 3 months to script on my own.

Now? It would take me 10 minutes.

The reason I didn’t quit is because of how badly I wanted to learn scripting.

I was the kid in class daydreaming about it and handwriting Roblox Lua code on my English journal.

That’s how obsessed I was.

But for you, I would recommend starting with a simpler game (as I’ll give examples of shortly in this article).

My Second Roblox Game

Sword Brawl is a game that I developed with friends in November-December of 2016

For my second game, I decided to get into something easier, Sword Brawl.

This game was plain simple: You have swords and every round you get teleported to a match where you can fight to the death.

I believe we pushed this one out in 2 months.

I had learned so much from my first game that the second game was a piece of cake.

This leads to something I call the dopamine cycle in game creation.

Dopamine Cycles in Game Creation

When you create a small Roblox game as a beginner and publish it, you’ll feel happy because your creation is finally done and you can show it to the world.

You’ll have learned some scripting, game design, and game creation.

From there, you can use the “feel good” feelings to make updates to your first game and release your second game.

You’ll have learned more stuff.

From there, you’ll feel good about your second game, and you can use those feelings to publish your third game.

The cycle repeats, over and over.

By the time you’re many years into it, you’ll have a ton of work to show off.

But the most important part is starting somewhere.

If your game is too hard, you might not stick with it for the long-run.

What Makes a Roblox Game Easy to Script?

So, let’s talk about what makes a game easy to script in the first place.

Clear Objectives

Firstly, you’ll want to ensure there is a clear objective in your game.

For example, in an obby, the objective is to get to the next stage by avoiding bricks and ultimately, to finish every stage.

If you don’t define the clear objectives in your game, then you won’t know what you have to script.

I would also recommend limiting the number of features in your game.

For example, don’t try to make 20 complex features, just pick a few or your first game.

In an obby, for example, maybe you have:

  • The obby itself with kill bricks, disappearing parts, etc.
  • Saving the stage that the player has reached
  • Maybe a GUI that tells the player their stage and progress

Minimal Need for Complex UI

For your first game, try not to make super complex UI, either.

It can be tempting to try to make something crazy, after seeing some of the work that others post on Twitter and YouTube.

But for your first game, your goal should be to try to get a working game, so that you can get into that dopamine cycle and eventually create more games.

For my first game, you can see that I didn’t have much UI.

I only had what was needed at the time for the game.

So, just try not to overcomplicate things for yourself.

In the future, when you learn more and more, you can get into complex UI, but for your first game, just keep it simple.

Allows you to Practice Scripting

The goal of your first game should be to:

  1. Get a game out
  2. Practice scripting

It’s okay if you have more goals than that, like making money.

But I would recommend the two main goals to be those 2.

Getting a game out will allow you to begin that dopamine cycle.

And being able to practice scripting will allow you to make more complex games in the future.

Top Easiest Roblox Games to Script as a Beginner

Now, here are some of the top easiest Roblox games to script as a beginner.

If you end up creating any of these games, let me know. I’d love to play them!

Obby Game

An obby game is one of the easiest Roblox games to script as a beginner

As I mentioned earlier, an obby game is one of the easiest Roblox games to script as a beginner.

Roblox obby games are so easy to script as a beginner because there’s not much complex logic.

Player movement is already handled by Roblox. All you have to do is make the obby itself work.

You just need to script kill bricks, checkpoints, maybe some GUI, and teleporting to the next stage.

For a tutorial on making your own obby game, check out this blog post.

Simulator Game

Pet Simulator 99 is a simulator game among the easiest Roblox games to script as a beginner
Pet Simulator 99, a popular Roblox simulator game

A simulator game is also very easy to make because it relies on repetitive mechanics, like collecting coins, increasing values, and upgrades.

You’ll have to learn about things like:

  • Increasing stats (like coins) when players click on the screen
  • Unlockable worlds – when players attain enough money, they should be able to enter a new world
  • Buying upgrades

Tycoon Game

Tycoon games take me back to when I was a little kid and I was playing Roblox for the first time.

The Roblox platform has tons of tycoon games, which are among the easiest Roblox games to script.
Roblox has tons and tons of tycoon games

The feeling of running your own business, even as a kid, is unparalleled.

The beauty of Roblox scripting is that you can make your own tycoon game.

You can imagine whatever tycoon game you want to make, and you can go ahead and get started with it.

Tycoon games are easy to make because they teach you about GUIs and creating parts over time, like having cash run through a conveyor belt and finally into the player’s account.

Creating a tycoon game will allow you to learn about things like:

  • Clicking to collect money
  • Conveyor belt systems
  • Purchasing new items with your money
  • Part spawning
  • Assigning ownership of properties to players

Roleplay Games

The beauty of role-play games is that they don’t necessarily require that much scripting.

You can make your own role play game with minimal scripting, like Brookhaven.

Or, you can go all in and make your role play game with a ton of scripting.

LifeTogether is a role-play game on the Roblox platform
LifeTogether is an extremely well-made roleplay game

It’s easy to make a role-play game because you can start simple with house, doors, and furniture.

You’ll be able to learn things like:

  • Door opening/closing
  • Seating
  • Simple UI

And as you get more advanced, you can add things like vehicles, physics, property ownership, etc.

I would recommend you look at Brookhaven and LifeTogether for inspiration on your own role-play game.

Click to Damage Dummy Game

Another choice is perhaps a click to damage dummy game.

Essentially, players spawn, and they click on different NPCs to damage them.

This one may be a little bit advanced, because you may want to use raycasting, which you can learn more about here, but you can also detect the NPCs by using mouse.Target.

To extend this game, you can even make the NPCs say random things, like “Ouch!”, “Oof”, “Owie!” like I’ve done in my game, BattleMania.

I also have a video that kind of shows you what I’m talking about.

Of course, don’t worry about adding crazy stuff like ragdolls if you’re a beginner, but the idea is being able to attack NPCs.
