Think Less, Create More

Today, I would like to introduce you to an idea called “think less, create more.”

If you’re looking to achieve great things in your life (like learning game development, programming, creative fields, achieving significant milestones), I recommend you take deep consideration into remembering this phrase.

“Think Less, Create More”

A Story

About 2 months ago, I found myself stuck.

I needed to get a full-time job to fulfill my degree-requirements in order to graduate, but let’s just say that the job market is kind of wacky right now.

I had applied to whatever I could online, but a lot of job postings nowadays aren’t legit, or you’ll never hear a reply from them.

If you’re in computer science, you know what I mean..

So, I was thinking about just going all in on entrepreneurship.

My thinking behind it was “Maybe I can just do my own business stuff until the job market gets better.”

But then, I remembered that in order to be financially free, I would need to make about $5,000/month (for myself). This number may be different for other people, but I calculated it out, and $5,000/month in profit is enough to make a living for me personally.

And then, I started thinking about what businesses I can run in order to make that amount.

  • YouTube? -> Doesn’t make enough, educational revenue per mille (RPM) is too low
  • Roblox games? -> Robux to USD conversion rates are too bad
  • Scripting Commissions -> Extremely rare to find serious clients that you can help.

The list goes on and on..

And you know what I did instead of trying things out?

I just overthought.

I hyper analyzed everything to figure out what I had to do in order to hit that milestone.

And then, I just went back to the thought of “maybe it’s time to try to get a job in big tech.”

My mind then started thinking about how I could do that.

I’d have to:

  • Practice 100s of boring LeetCode problems in a society where LeetCode is being threatened.
  • Send out 100s of more job applications
  • I was unsure about what kinds of practice projects I had to make. I already had a few, but it seemed that every company wanted something different. Some companies wanted C#, some companies wanted C++, others wanted Python, with various frameworks.

My specific knowledge is in Roblox scripting and web development.

And having to do all of that while balancing difficult classes full-time, like machine learning, gave me a headache.

I thought about the two options for 2 months: Should I just do my own thing or get a job?

I knew I needed to get a job in order to graduate, but it’s very difficult as is.

At the same time, I figured that I should try to make a bit of money on the side through business, in case I can’t get a job.

I was over analyzing everything, and this continuous stressful overthinking process followed for 2 entire months.

By the end, I hadn’t gotten anything done.

I was too busy and stressed thinking and thinking about what to do for months.

I was just like Bob in this video.

I thought about how I had done all of that overthinking, but had nothing at the end to show for it.

Think Less, Create More

I began adopting this mindset of thinking less and creating more.

Essentially, this mindset means to stop overthinking and just start creating.

I did some research online on how I could motivate myself and I remember this video from Alex Hormozi.

“I will win because that’s who I am, not who they are.”

In the hard times of being a full time student, needing a job, and having to decide between job and entrepreneurship, I realized that I can make most of them happen if I changed my mindset.

Instead of overthinking every detail about my actions, I decided I’ll make it work “because that’s who I am.”

In other words, I will “be the thing that makes it work.”

And then, I just immediately got to work.

No more overthinking.

Just pure creation.

Before, my brain used to look like:

Plan -> Analyze -> Plan -> Analyze -> Plan -> …

Now, thanks to Think Less and Create More..

Plan -> Execute.

I spend 30 minutes planning things, like what features I’ll script for my Roblox games in the week, what blog posts I’ll write, what videos I’ll make, and I just get to work from there.

No more overthinking. Just plain execution.

With this, I realized that 1 hour of doing something is more valuable than 24 hours of thinking about doing something.

Results of Creating More Than Thinking

They say that your business grows with you.

So, when you improve, your business also improves.

YouTube views after creating more and thinking less

That’s what happened.

I just stopped overthinking and started creating.

It’s definitely nowhere near $5,000/month, but it’s better than trapping myself in the overwhelming and anxious thoughts of indecision.

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post and hopefully, you can use this affirmation of Think Less, Create More to become a better person.

I make these blog posts as an attribution to the struggle that I’m having right now, so that later on in life, when I’m more successful, I can look back and see where I came from.
