Roblox has been getting extremely popular, boasting 380 million monthly active users. Learning Roblox scripting can accelerate the process of making your own Roblox games. In this article, I’ll explain the best age to learn Roblox scripting.

I Began Scripting Roblox Games At 12 Years Old

I began scripting Roblox games when I was 12 years old because I was obsessed with scripting.

Day in and day out, all I could think about was one day, being able to write my own code to make awesome Roblox games.

In school, I’d daydream about it all day long.

I was the kid that would talk about it all the time because of how much fun it was for me.

During English class, when I was in 5th grade, I have this distinct memory of when I was in class and we were asked to write in our English journal.

Of course, being the overachiever that I am, I finished writing the journal entry quickly, and then I filled the entire next page with Roblox scripting code.

That is how obsessed I was with it.

Scripting was the only thing I ever knew.

For this reason, I recommend beginner scripters to begin scripting Roblox games at the age of 12+, if they are passionate about it.

Results of Learning Scripting at An Early Age

Since I learned scripting at such an early age and I persisted with it for 9+ years, I experienced a lot of benefits in my life.

Teaching Scripting

Since I was so interested in learning scripting at such an early age, I also felt like I should spread my knowledge with the world, so I began my YouTube channel, script_ing, at around that time as well.

Because of that decision that I made when I was 12, my YouTube channel has allowed me to spread my knowledge to millions of viewers online.

I also had a much easier time finding jobs where I could teach programming to kids, because I began when I was a kid, and I had all of the content on YouTube to back up my experience.

My first job was teaching Roblox scripting and programming to kids that were 8-16.

While older kids had an easier time learning scripting, I found that they were apathetic earlier than younger kids (due to maturity).

Younger learners would be extremely happy when their code worked (I can’t blame them!).

Seeing their games come to life was an extremely rewarding view for them.

Later on, I had the privilege of teaching more students in-person.

For this reason, I think that the best age to learn Roblox scripting is 12+ years old.

Although, any age is fine.

I think what matters more than the age is the burning desire to learn scripting.

The feeling of seeing a Roblox game that lights you up and makes you want to be able to create something similar.

Ability to Script Anything

Due to my interest in Roblox scripting at such a young age and perseverance through many years, I had opportunities to script several different genres of games.

I was able to look at code and understand the underlying patterns that made it work.

Eventually, I was able to script anything I wanted — right from imagination.

Scripting became a way for me to express my creativity in my craft, as you can see from this video where I scripted Sakura Trees.

I was able to land high ticket commissions, ranging from $2,000-$5,000+, because of my ability to translate other people’s game ideas into working code.

Scripting My Own Game

This ability to script anything eventually lead to my ability to release my own games, like BattleMania, my Roblox game that has been played over 1.6 million times by tens of thousands of monthly active users.

I have the ability to script any game I want now: all it takes is a great game idea.

This process of scripting games is super rewarding as well.

How to Learn Scripting

Now, at younger ages, like ages 12-14, it may be difficult to grasp complicated scripting concepts, like Vector3.

This is a risk, as beginner scripters will encounter difficulties at points during their scripting journey.

Roblox documentation and online sources tend to explain things in ways that leave the learner confused.

I learned scripting by dedicating an hour every night to read a book to learn scripting and an hour the next morning to practice what I had learned.
