Obby games have been around since the beginning of Roblox and they&#8217;re not going away anytime soon. In this article, I&#8217;ll teach you how to make your own simple Roblox obby game from scratch. You&#8217;ll learn how to set up your own obby game, script it, and publish it on Roblox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the end of the article, you&#8217;ll have a fully playable obby with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A spawn point <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Platforms and obstacles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kill bricks <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A checkpoint system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A finish line that teleports players to victory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 1: Set Up Roblox Studio<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Download Roblox Studio<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For us to make a Roblox game from scratch, we&#8217;ll need Roblox Studio. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roblox Studio is an application that Roblox provides us with that allows us to create Roblox games from scratch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, let&#8217;s start by downloading Roblox Studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To download Roblox studio, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/kushaltimsina.com\/blog\/2025\/02\/05\/how-to-download-roblox-studio\/\">follow this tutorial<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, if you&#8217;re looking for a <a href=\"https:\/\/kushaltimsina.com\/blog\/2025\/03\/28\/what-laptop-should-you-get-for-roblox-development\/\">good laptop to use for Roblox game development, you can find one scratch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you follow the above tutorial on downloading Roblox Studio, you should find yourself staring at the giant gray checkered block, called the Baseplate, and the light gray block with a spiral design, called a SpawnLocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should also have the <a href=\"https:\/\/kushaltimsina.com\/blog\/2025\/02\/28\/what-is-the-explorer-window-in-roblox-studio\/\">Explorer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/kushaltimsina.com\/blog\/2025\/03\/03\/what-is-the-properties-window-in-roblox-studio\/\">Properties<\/a> windows visible on your screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If for some reason, the block that tells Roblox where the players in your game should spawn at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the Baseplate is just a large block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Removing the Baseplate<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For our obby, we don&#8217;t really need the Baseplate (we&#8217;ll make our own!), so let&#8217;s remove it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To remove the Baseplate, look for it in the Explorer, right click it, and click Delete. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-large-font-size\"><blockquote><p>Tip: You can also click on the Baseplate and use the delete key on class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creating the Base for Our Roblox Game<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first step to make our Roblox game from scratch is to have a base  (i.e the part that our obstacles will be on).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, let&#8217;s start there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Start by creating a new Part using Studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the &#8220;Home&#8221; button in the top ribbon bar, and then click on the &#8220;Part&#8221; button to insert it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"171\" If you&#8217;re on Mac, you can use Command + D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve duplicated it once, you&#8217;ll see two Kill Bricks on the Explorer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image actually 2 kill bricks overlapping one another in the same exact positions!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select one of the kill bricks, use the move tool, and move it outward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s actually duplicating the kill brick and moving the new one out of the way to create a bunch of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this video, I&#8217;m repeatedly pressing control D to create a duplicate, then I&#8217;m Obby<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, let&#8217;s add a second stage to our Roblox game to our Roblox game from scratch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Roblox, <a href=\"https:\/\/create.roblox.com\/docs\/reference\/engine\/classes\/SpawnLocation\">SpawnLocations<\/a> are also like checkpoints. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far, we have one SpawnLocation, which is like our <em>starting<\/em> checkpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To add a second stage to our Roblox game, we&#8217;ll add another checkpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Adding the Checkpoint<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you remember how we copied the red kill bricks?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can do the same thing with the SpawnLocation to create a new checkpoint!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure (But interesting to see as a player)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if we had 200 stages, then people will spawn on random stages between 1-200.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some may even spawn on stage 200!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So to prevent this, we&#8217;re telling Roblox &#8220;Stage 2 (and every future stage) is Neutral. Do not let players spawn there!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But our Start, however, should be kept Neutral, as that&#8217;s where we want our players to spawn, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Building Stage 2<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, let&#8217;s start building stage 2 for our Roblox game from scratch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this stage, let&#8217;s create square shaped kill bricks and arrange them in a tile format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on the Kill Brick <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Resize it into a square <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move it <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Duplicate the square <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat everything duplicating our SpawnLocation and moving it past the second stage: Press Control (or Command on Mac) + D, then use the move tool to move it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> And don&#8217;t forget to rename it to class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 6: Publishing Your Game<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that we&#8217;ve made a Roblox game from scratch, let&#8217;s publish your game for the world to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the top left corner of Roblox Studio, look for &#8220;FILE&#8221;, and click the &#8220;Publish to Roblox&#8221; button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full href=\"https:\/\/create.roblox.com\">you can find it by going here<\/a>, but may not be active for other players yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that your game is private and others can&#8217;t find it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to make your game public (so that you can share it with your friends), it&#8217;s pretty simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, <a href=\"https:\/\/create.roblox.com\">go to this
